BlackBerry 8800
Introducing the BlackBerry 8800
I posted this quite a while back - I have had this device for almost 2 months now and I must say, I finally like using the BlackBerry brand. The first few models I had were bearable but I couldn't honestly see what all the fuss was about the BlackBerry. Finally, when I purchased the BlackBerry Pearl for my wife it seemed they figured out what "technical power users" like our family demanded from technology. The Pearl finally had some cool features and allowed the use of an auxillary memory card allowing storing of various types of media and let's not forget, finally with camera phone capabilities.
The BlackBerry 8800 or "Indigo" is very much a modified copy of the Pearl, if you will. It does just about everything that the Pearl can do (without the camera of course) but the 8800 has the full keyboard. I'm even told they run on pretty much the same OS, but I haven't check that out yet. My only complaint is that sometimes my fingers slip off of the keys, where the Pearl fits tightly in your hands. Of course my favorite options are the abiltiy to put up to a 2GB microSD card in it to play music, videos, etc. I also really like the onboad GPS unit when in conjunction with your mapping program (I use BlackBerry's version) you can actually track your trip and even plan it with directions from your handheld.
Some cool hidden features a friend of mine showed me I will post below: but be warned, use these tips at your own peril.
1. Have you ever wanted to check or even disable the lengthy logs that your phone is writing? With this tip you can view and disable them all if you like: hold the ALT button while typing the following letters: l g l g
2. Have you ever wanted to do a full hard reset of your phone (similar to a battery pull) but don't what to mess around with taking it all apart and removing battery? Then this sequence is for you: hold these buttons down at the same time and then release: ALT NUM DEL
3. Now this one I'm told only works with the Pearl but i'm not sure of that. This sequence is supposed to display system information: Hold down the ALT button while typing this sequence: r a c e
Hope these tips helped and if you have some please feel free to post them here.
