HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOMIZED FREE BLACKBERRY RINGTONES

Blackberry Tips

These are my BlackBerry Tips

If you would like to make your own ringtones for your BlackBerry 8700 please follow the procedure below:

1 - I would recommend downloading and installing Audacity which is free software that will allow you to cut/format your sound files into a compatible audio format for your BlackBerry.

2 - After installing Audacity open the sound file you want to play on your BlackBerry within the application. From the application you want to export the file as an mp3 with the acceptable parameters. These parameters include changing the output to 44100hz which you change from the little box on the lower left hand corner of the applicaion (not from the original sampling rate which is right next to the graph where the display of the audio content is located - you are just saving the new changes to this format). Also, you need to change the output to mono as well. This can be done by choosing split audio channel and deleting the R channel audio format and leaving the L channel. You also need to make sure that the total audio time is less than about 8 seconds or so. Not sure of the reason why but I found that audio files larger than 126KB wouldn't work on my BlackBerry and said these file are too large when I tried to install them. 8 seconds seems to be the limit from what I have found - you should try to experiment.

3. Once you have a properly formated audio file it is time to install it to your BlackBerry. I will typically upload them to my website where I will then download them directly from my BlackBerry as a sound file from the audio player installed on my phone. I have tried to email the file to myself and that does not seem to work at this time.

If you do not have your own website hosting for uploading files for direct access via BlackBerry I have found a free site that allows you to do this. Keep in mind you must still have formated your file properly. Coolservice.dk allows you to upload to them for free and they provide an access code to your uploaded file for access/download via BlackBerry.

Below are some sample BlackBerry ringtones. If you would like to install them into your BlackBerry device just goto this page via your BlackBerry and click on the links below to play them from your device and then save them as a ringtone.
